The hijacking of Christmas

Topic Image

Christmas is of course a time intended for reflection about the religious significance of Christ, as well as a chance to spend quality time with families and friends. Originally it was a time where people would attend church and give thanks to the Lord and enjoy the love of their families, but look at it now...Commercialised beyond recongition with 'Santa' appearing earlier and earlier. The focus has been shifted from love and togetherness to buying expensive toys and other items that often end up in a cupboard or returned to the shop unwanted to fill the coffers of the shops. Christmas shopping has become a time of stress and even worry about affording gifts. Should this trend be allowed to continue? How can we give the greatest Christmas gift of all - Christmas itself - back to the people?
